The world’s leading gathering for sports coaches, the Global Coach Conference, organised every two years by the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE, www.icce.ws), has been awarded to the Hellenic Federation of Sports Coaches and Trainers (POPA, www.popa.gr) and will take place in Athens in 2025.
The decision followed a bidding process open to interested organisations worldwide. The bids from Greece (POPA) and Norway (Inland University of Applied Sciences) reached the final selection stage. In the final vote, POPA’s bid defeated Norway’s by a margin of two votes.
The result was announced at the official handover ceremony for the 2025 conference, held at the close of this year’s 14th Global Coach Conference in Singapore, which took place from 30 November to 3 December.
POPA was represented by its Treasurer, Mr Filippos Oikonomou, who received the ICCE flag from Secretary General Dr Ladislav Petrovic and Singapore conference organiser Mr Azhar Yusof at the official handover to the next host.
Bringing together leading coaches, coach educators, sports scientists, technical directors and sports directors at the world’s most prestigious coaching conference, this gathering is the coaching community’s foremost international event every two years.
POPA is already preparing a dynamic and highly engaging programme of presentations and activities to attract the attention and interest of people involved in coaching and sport, both in Greece and around the world.
The award of the 15th Global Coach Conference 2025 to POPA is a major international honour, recognising and rewarding its work on behalf of coaches.
